I won the 2013 International Sociology of Sport Association’s graduate student paper award. The award is in recognition of my paper “Serena Williams: Gender, Race and (the Perception of) Violence in Women’s Professional Tennis.” I will present this paper at the ISSA World Congress of Sociology of Sport in Vancouver, Canada, June 12-15, 2013. To facilitate my attendance, I was awarded a Jacob K. Goldhaber Travel Grant and the International Conference Student Support Award from the Graduate School of the University of Maryland.
